The Man Himself |

What can one say about Alfie except for “Once known, never forgotten”. Alfie was just a little terrier pup of about 12 weeks old who, sadly for him, on the morning of 20th June 2007 became yet another Limassol road accident statistic. He was run over by a car and then picked up barely alive and thrown into a shop doorway. Luckily for Alfie some kind person took the time to try and sort things out for him. This kind person was going to keep Alfie so the decision was made to try and save him. Unfortunately the person involved decided later that they were unable to keep him, so he stayed with a local couple Leo and Margaret who already have 8 dogs of their own. Due to a change in circumstances they had to look for a foster home for him. This had to be a very special foster home as Alfie had fractures to his pelvis and had been unable to walk for 7 weeks. He was now on his feet, although very crippled and doubly incontinent. I guess a lot of you will be thinking he should have been put to sleep straight away, and I do not think we would dispute this but that time had passed before he came to Carole who was determined to give him a chance. Carole's second experience of fostering was with a dog that needed so much time and attention. He had to be washed every time he opened his bowels and generally did a circle of wee about 15 metres wide because he ran whilst weeing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He originally needed a lot of work to get him on his feet, but in his own style he was soon mobile and always joined in with the other dogs. What can one say about Alfie; he was kind, very intelligent and had so much zest for life. Never have I met such a gutsy dog. Without the devoted care of Carole and her husband Dixie, life for Alfie would have been even harder. I will let Carole tell you about her Alfie. This was the dog that inspired us to start our fund. |
