Cats & Collars

One morning we had a phone call about a stray cat.  The lady on the other end of the telephone was very distressed and she told us a feral cat had been involved in a car accident and was severely injured.  We went out and collected the cat and although her injuries were so severe she would not have survived it would have taken a long time for her to die in pain.  The Alfie Fund paid to have her put to sleep peacefully and quickly.

Many weeks later we had a call from a very upset lady who told us of a cat that was hanging around near her home and judging by the smell the cat was in great need of medical treatment.  We went out to collect the cat and sure enough the cat was in desperate need of immediate veterinary care.  His collar had become embedded into his neck and the awful smell was his decomposing flesh.  This dear little cat was taken to the vets with instructions that the Alfie Fund would pay to either have the collar cut out and the neck treated or for the cat to be put to sleep.  As it happened his former sanctuary took him in and paid for his treatment.  We need here to say thank you to the person who cared enough to phone us to report the cat.  Without her the cat would have suffered along and painful death.
