Beau's Background

The next dog we helped was Beau.  He had a heart breaking background. Beau was handed in to the SBA Police and after his two days there he was taken to the vets at Episkopi Garrison.  The usual procedure is for the dog to be checked for a microchip and if possible re-united with it’s owner, if no microchip is found  is found the dog is kept for three days and if a new home cannot be found the dog will be put to sleep.  Beau was more than thin or undernourished he was totally emaciated.

A few more days without food and Beau would have been dead with no help from anyone.  Out of all the dogs that pass through the vets Beau made such an impact that he was kept for three weeks.  When I met Beau at this point he looked deformed as he was so weak he could not stand properly and could only move in a crouched position.  Reality has to be faced though and he was to be put to sleep if no home could be found for him very soon so I fostered this beautiful, gentle, starved and beaten dog.

It was not to be. We had  received a call to say Beau had been returned to the vets, so we turned the car around and headed back to Episkopi to collect him.  Once again this beautiful dog was back with me.   However on the 22nd March 2008, BARC held an Easter Coffee Morning and as I was due to “man the office” that day I asked my husband to bring Beau up to help with his socialising and overcome his nervousness in unfamiliar circumstances. This turned out to be a good day though, as Jane, one of BARCs dog walkers met Beau and fell in love with him. Her family also liked him, so once again I gave away this fabulous fellow.  This has to be the last time though, if this does not work out Beau will either get put to sleep or we will just have to go up to a family of four dogs, my lot love him so I guess it is plausible!  Fingers crossed, he will settle with Jane and her family to be loved and cared for in the way all animals deserve.  It has been a long journey with Beau but I envy Jane for taking over the rest of Beau’s rehabilitation. This is one special lad.  Bless you Beau I am sure this will work for you.
